- Abstract
- We have cross-examined expression levels and sizes of transcripts for cytoplasmic actin, probable amylase/protease inhibitor (PAPI), proteinase inhibitor II and ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase small subunit (rbcS) in several higher plants; potato, red pepper, tobacco and tomato. Northern hybridizations for cytoplasmic actin transcripts showed a band at about 1.7 kb from potato leaves, red-pepper seedlings and tomato seedlings. The band was not detectable from the sixty-days-old potato microtuber. Northern hybridizations for PAPI transcripts showed a band at about 900 b for potato leaves, tomato seedlings, red-pepper seedlings and tobacco leaves, but not from the sixty-days-old potato microtuber. For proteinase inhibitor II transcripts, a Northern band at about 1 kb was observed only from potato microtuber. Northern hybridizations for rbcS transcripts showed a band at about 1.2 kb from the leaves of potato, red-pepper and tomato. From the potato microtuber, no apparent rbcS Northern signal was detected.
