Abstract
An actin cDNA from red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is cloned. The clone, pRPACl, covers the full length of actin coding sequence which is 376 amino acids long. It also has 94 nucleotide long 5'-untranslated sequence and about 310 nucleotide long 3z-untrans-lated sequence. The clone finds approximately 1.7-kb mRNA on Northern blot analysis. Comparisons of amino acid composition and sequence among actins from various organisms show strong homologies. Amino terminal half of red pepper actin is remarkably homologous to rice actin, such that difference is only for 5 amino acids.
