- Abstract
- Transcriptional regulation of allantoin degradative genes (DAL4, DAL7, DUR1, and DUR2) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is controlled by thie availability of ammonium in the medium. These genes are under the tight nitrogen catabolite repression and induced by the allopha-nate, the last metabolite intermediate. Promoter analysis of these genes had shown that three distinct positive and negative cis-acting elements (UIS, UAS, and URS) are involved in the induction process. We report in this paper that gel retardation assay with these cis-acting elements and proteins extracted from the yeast cells grown in allantoin-containing minimal media shows that at least three diflerent 分ww-acting factors are interacting with the upstream activation sequence (UAS), upstream repression sequence (URS), and upstream induction sequence (UIS).
